THE GRACE CLAP BACK by Roc Queen

We are naturally wired to defend ourselves. That’s why we blink, that’s why we flinch, and even square up when needed. I’m really a chill person, quite relaxed if you let me tell it, oh but don’t get it twisted or come at me sideways cause I can turn up. Two words for you: CROSS ME🙅🏾 😊. Although I can, doesn’t mean I always do. I am a black girl, who was living in Orange County for 3 years. Believe me, I’ve been in plenty situations where I could’ve defended myself or clapped back at a few people. But what does that prove? Where does that get me?  And why would I exert my beautiful energy on non-sense?

A couple of weeks ago, I was having dinner one night with some friends at EastBorugh, a Vietnamese Restaurant, cause I’m cultured like that, (not even..I order the same thing every time I go, 😂😂 😂 . We were having this discussion about vulnerability, and why it’s so hard for us to forgive and move on when we’ve been hurt or burned by people. Three things I gathered from our conversation.

01 // WE USE DEFENSE AS OUR OFFENSE

Simply put, it’s our defense mechanism. We feel as if we remain hard towards a situation or person, we won’t get hurt again. I don’t mean to be the bearer of bad news but, you will. And it actually takes way more energy to hold onto a grudge, than to just let it go.. I promise you 9 times out of 10, the other person has moved on and let it go, so do yourself a favor and let it go, before you end up frozen.

02 // WE LACK A TRUE UNDERSTANDING OF GRACE

Truth is, EVERYDAY we offend somebody, somewhere, because that’s what humans do. But our biggest offense isn't horizontal, it’s vertical. Yep, bigger than offending your family, friends, or foes, we’ve all offended God in some way, shape, or form. But God never defends himself against us, nor does he turn His back on us. Instead He loves us relentlessly, and graceFULLy.

03 // WE THINK WE FIGHT BETTER THAN GOD

This one doesn't need much explaining, but He’s NEVER lost a battle and I’ll leave it at that 👊 🏾.

They call me CHILL BILL (well I call myself that) because, I have decided that there’s way too much going on in life, to be holding onto small stuff. Here’s the thing, when you hold onto small things, that’s all you’ll ever have. Get a 2nd job, cause you got way too much time on your hands.

Am I ok with being burned? Noooppeee, but when it happens I address it and move on. That’s life, that’s grace, and that’s how you Clap Back ( enter slow clap).

Romans 12:17-19 (MSG)

Don’t hit back; discover beauty in everyone. If you’ve got it in you, get along with everybody. Don’t insist on getting even; that’s not for you to do. “I’ll do the judging,” says God. “I’ll take care of it.”

THE BIRDS AND THE BEEZ by Roc Queen

It’s easier not to talk about the things we don’t understand. Like the bird and the bees convo 😐. I’ll be honest, to this day, I still don’t understand why they chose to use a bird and a bee for a sex analogy. I’ve never heard “the birds and the bees” told without weird grins or blank stares. AND I’ve also never heard a truthful or consistent answer to the big mystery question, “Mommy, where do babies come from?” Yet there’s a whole bunch of kids running around.

Grace is also a mystery, a beautiful one, but still a mystery. One that I cannot wrap my mind around. Grace completely blows me away; and I get it, we can’t comprehend how a flawless God, would love us flaws and all (shout-out to 👑 🐝). Truth be told, we won’t ever get it. I don’t even think we were created to understand “the why” on this one. I think it’s best we just receive it, and take in stride.

I don’t know if we subconsciously or purposely do this, but we confuse the “D” in stride, with a “V”. Because we start striving for something that is already ours. It’s like we have spiritual dyslexia or something. You see striving takes a whole bunch of effort and work. Striving comes with way too many rules and regulations. And I’m not about that lie, yes I meant to say lie. Because if you think, you, can muster up enough goodness within yourself, go ahead and lie, yes I meant to say lie again.

Grace is unearned, nope, you don’t deserve it. Rich homie, you can’t pay for it, Steph Curry with the shot boi, will never be good enough for it. To all my 4.1999 students your GPA does not qualify you, nor does your weak credit score 😂😂😂 ,(because people like you have great credit I’m sure). And let’s be clear, grace IS NOT an excuse or a reason to live anyway we please. I’m also not about that lie either.

It’s simple, almost as simple as the birds and the bees 😜. God’s grace is a non-refundable gift with a life-time warranty.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT)

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

THE TRUTH ABOUT GRACE by Roc Queen

Welcome to the “The Truth About Grace” blog, where we’ll simplify grace and attempt to break all stereotypes surrounding it. I am soooo excited you are here, and I can’t believe I’m really doing this.  First things first, we are not a church, this is an online community,  and community is simple, it's a group of people sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.

This community is founded and centered on Jesus’ life, what He did on the Cross, and what His Resurrection means for Humanity. You see Christ didn’t die for a physical building, nor a single day of the week. He came, died, and resurrected so that you and I can live. And the truth is that, the work on the cross and what He did to the grave, ALWAYS meets us wherever we are, and whenever we want to meet, and that’s what we call grace.

We have put so many stipulations and rules around what it means to be a follower of Christ, and what we can do to get it right (i.e perfect), but we will always come up short. The truth is, Christ traded our sin and shame for His righteous, and that my friend is grace. So we don’t have any righteous to give, lend, or work up. Do we get it wrong here, ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY. But who doesn’t, and if you say you don’t.. STOPPPPP, cause you just did boo.

As much as it pains me to say this because I think we abuse phrases like "ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE ME”, which is true. We are on a journey, and Heaven is the destination, and we don’t arrive until we get there. So I am no further along on this journey than the next ALIVE person.

So why here, why this community. Because here it's not about followers or number, it’s about Jesus. It’s not about what’s trendy or what’s cool, it’s about Jesus. This is not about a religion, a Sunday, or what you do the other 52 Sundays. It’s not about who's right or wrong, who’s first or last, rich or poor, it’s about Jesus. This is not about what you can and cannot do, it’s about Jesus. This is not about my truth or your truth, it’s about Jesus. It’s not about us or them, it’s about Jesus. This community is about grace and truth in love and that is Jesus...

So here’s the only truth that we can hold on to; Jesus loved, loves, and will continuously love us..no matter what we’ve done or will do, and that’s grace. And when we believe the lies about grace, we miss out on the truth about grace.

Romans 5:20-21 (MSG)

All that passing laws against sin did was produce more lawbreakers. But sin didn’t, and doesn’t, have a chance in competition with the aggressive forgiveness we call grace. When it’s sin versus grace, grace wins hands down. All sin can do is threaten us with death, and that’s the end of it. Grace, because God is putting everything together again through the Messiah, invites us into life—a life that goes on and on and on, world without end.
